Build Missouri Health provides a valuable service by offering fiscal sponsorship to organizations and coalitions that are in alignment with our mission of fostering and amplifying community-led innovations through partnerships. This sponsorship is designed to facilitate radical systemic changes that lead to more equitable health outcomes. Through this service, sponsored organizations and coalitions have the opportunity to engage in impactful work within our state by partnering with a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

This affiliation enables them to access grants and receive donations from supporters, ultimately empowering them to pursue their initiatives and contribute to the improvement of health outcomes in our community.

What is Fiscal Sponsorship?

Fiscal sponsorship allows emerging initiatives and groups to attract donors and secure grants by having a nonprofit act as the administrative “home” for the cause. Working with a fiscal sponsor enables a program or organization that does not itself qualify as tax-exempt to attract funding for its operations that will, through the fiscal sponsor, be tax-deductible to donors.

Therefore, fiscal sponsor arrangements benefit organizations or programs that are not tax-exempt by providing a pathway for revenue that the organization may not otherwise be able to receive. Build Missouri Health primarily uses a model that allows unincorporated organizations or collaborative efforts to use BMH’s nonprofit status (EIN) to secure grants and donations. Upon receiving the funding, BMH will disburse those funds to the sponsored entity for the entity to pay staff, consultants, and other expenses related to the project.

Through this arrangement, BMH will not hire staff or contractors on behalf of the sponsored entity – all costs are the responsibility of the sponsored entity. Learn more about fiscal sponsorship.
